UTSA vs Arizona State Live

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen the Arizona State Sun Devils in a real, live football game. Luckily, we’re only a few short days away until their 2018 season officially starts. On the other side of the field will be the UTSA Roadrunners, a team that the Sun Devils beat in 2016.

Right now, it’s important to take an inventory of the team. After all, they have a new head coach in town who will be relying heavily on the guys who have won in the Pac-12 already.

The offense, more specifically their skill players, look the best at this point. On the Pac-12 Network’s show The Drive, first-year Sun Devils’ coach Herm Edwards confirmed as much, saying the offensive unit is team’s “lead car”. Seniors Manny Wilkins (QB) and N’Keal Harry (WR) highlight the unit and could be all-conference guys by season’s end. The only iffy thing right now, in my mind, is their offensive line.

On the flip side, their defense is the big question mark. The unit is extremely inexperienced, having lost almost all of their pass rush from 2017. Their top six leaders in sacks from last year are all gone, which removes 30.5 of their 37 total sacks. The only returner with multiple sacks from last season is Jay Jay Wilson and he was just suspended indefinitely by Edwards.

Luckily, their special teams unit looks to be an above-average, experienced group of guys.
